The House Energy and Commerce Committee approved the new legislation to ban DJIs on March 20, 2024. It’s a boost to the federal and state governments to restrict the company drone’s use in the country.

The committee members reached a unanimous decision on the matter, demonstrating unity and shared concern for national security.

At present, the two bills are being thoroughly reviewed by the full US House, a crucial step before they can be enacted into law.

According to Rep. Elise (R-New York) — the bills’ primary sponsor— Congress must use all the power bestowed upon them to end China’s communist monopolistic control over the US drone market.

Even so, the argument isn’t convincing enough to many drone users. 

They associate the move partly with the heavy mobilization of US-based uncrewed aerial system manufacturers like Skydio’s desire to displace DJI.

The companies wish to occupy more of the US drone market as autonomous commercial drone use grows.

Raptor is a Malaysian-assembled drone sold by a US-based company.

The drone’s thermal version has 1/2-inch 48MP and 12MP camera and a high-resolution LWIR thermal imaging payload (640×512). It also has excellent hybrid zoom abilities (56x).

Raptor and DJI Mavic 3E have extended flight times of up to 45 minutes and a flight range of 9 miles (15 km). 

The two have an optional RTK (real-time kinematics) module accessory. Raptor is backward-compatible with the DJI Mavic 3’s Intelligent Battery. 

Differences:

The two drones are different in the following aspects:

All DJIs have geofencing, which you can turn on and off as desired, while the Raptor doesn’t.

While the DJI Mavic 3 uses the company’s proprietary software, the Raptor uses an entirely different software. It uses one from Aloft, which is provided in the two companies’ partnership.
